CT, January, 2010
"CT" (for Cicloturismo/GranFondo) is a very good monthly Italian cycling magazine. Don't let the title fool you as it covers all aspects of cycling (except pro racing for which the publisher has "BS-BiciSport"; there is also "MTB" for mountain bikers).
Every issue numbers in excess of 200 pages. I thought it would be interesting to give you a sense of the types of articles that appear each month. With 200+ pages there is a lot of ground covered so I'll just choose what has caught my eye.
With the Maratona dles Dolomites fully subscribed (the situation every year; you have to plan early!) the editors recommend the GF Coppi.
The climb of Monte Grappa is reviewed. It will be new to the Pinarello Cycling Marathon (ex-Granfondo Pinarello), and it will also be in Stage 14 of the Giro d'Italia this year. Monte Grappa also holds a special place in the history of the "Alpini" soldiers which you can read at this previous blog entry. The WWI memorial at the summit is breathtaking.
A review of the Passoni "Top Force W" model; 11,400 euro.
An article about Power Cranks.
Again, there are many more articles...these are just a few.
Stories for the Italian Cycling Journal welcome; contact me at veronaman@gmail.com. There are more than 1,100 stories in this blog. The search feature to the right works best for finding subjects in the blog and there is also a translate button at the bottom so that you can translate each page.
Both BS and CT are great magazines. Interestingly they have zero web content that we know about---only print so you have to buy one or borrow your friend's copy. Our industry pals tell us advertising rates are reasonable, perhaps because they make a profit on the sale of each mag? Sadly this situation must be unique to Italy as no other magazines we've seen come close to either of these in the area of quality writing, photos and passion for the sport. I used to wonder if an English-language edition would be successful in the US...until I read a bit years ago suggesting the reader not even consider Campagnolo's Record gruppo until he'd pared all the excess weight from his body! Can you imagine the reaction to that in the USA?
