Il Tricolore del Fango
"The Tricolor of Mud" is how Sunday's Italian cyclocross national championship is being described. The race, set up along the banks of the Milan Seaplane base terminal referred to as the Idroscalo, was won by Marco Aurelio Fontana from the Cannondale Factory Racing. Fontana out raced this year's favorite, Enrico Franzoi (BKCP Powerplus), and went on to win his second cyclocross title in three years. Finishing third was Marco Bianco (L’Arcobaleno Carraro Team).
The women's race was won by Eva Lechner(Centro Sportivo Italiano). Following in 2nd and 3rd were Vania Rossi (Centro Sportivo Esercito) and Evelyn Steffler (L’Arcobaleno Carraro Team).
