Slovakia, Possible Host of a 2012 Giro d'Italia Stage
Giro d'Italia Director Angelo Zomegnan was in Bratislava at the end of August where he met with representatives of the organizations that have advanced the candidacy of Slovakia to host a Giro stage in 2012, or in a later edition.
Meanwhile, there hasn't been any new news regarding the start of the 2012 Giro d'Italia in Washington D.C. After a meeting and reception back in February at the Italian Embassy (featuring Mayor Adrian Fenty, Giro organizer Angelo Zomegnan, etc.) working groups were formed to plan for the event but there is still no green light to proceed with it.

Hi from Washington, DC!
ReplyDeleteDC Mayor Adrian Fenty appears likely to lose re-election today. That spells bad things for the possibility of Giro 2012 beginning here. Fenty is a cycling enthusiast and the (likely) next mayor, Vincent Gray, would probably not show the same sort of drive to secure the event.
I knew it was too good to be true!
I see that Fenty did lose the primary yesterday. Oh oh.
