Andrea Pinarello Dies in Giro del Friuli
Tragic news from the Giro del Friuli: Andrea Pinarello, son of Giovanni Pinarello, has passed away, apparently of a heart attack, shortly after completing the first stage of the Giro del Friuli from Tavagnacco to Staranzano.
Andrea Pinarello, 40, was responsible for marketing for Pinarello. A passionate cyclist, he was competing in the Friuli region in a UDACE stage race for amateurs.
He leaves behind his wife and two sons, brother Fausto and sister Carla, father Giovanni and mother Ida, all well known in the world of two wheels.
Our sincerest condolences go to the Pinarello family.
I will have fond memories of Andrea Pinarello riding his Pinarello through this La Pinarello video of Il Salto della Capra:
RIP Andrea. We all gotta go sometime but it seems your time was rather short. I spoke with Fausto Pinarello a few years ago at Interbike and congratulated him and the Pinarello bike company for not just making and selling bicycles, but for riding and promoting the riding of them as well.
ReplyDeleteThis was such a short flat stage ( http://girofvgudace.myblog.it/list/altimetrie/3226842938.jpg )- I have to wonder if there was an undetected medical problem that finally flared up. My condolences to his family and friends.
ReplyDeleteVery sad to hear. There was clearly a pre-existing condition as 40 year olds generally do not collapse and die after these kinds of ride, particularly someone as experienced as Andrea would have been. Pietro Ferrero was only 47 when he died in April during a training ride in South Africa and was another passionate cyclist. Maybe the cycling kept them both alive longer than one would have expected.
