Bergamo's UCI World Cup 2015 Hopes, Part II

Bergamo's candidacy to host the UCI World Cup 2015 officially began on the evening of November 24th under the slogan of "2015: a Bergamo il Mondo in Bici”. The initiative for the project is being coordinated by the chairman of Gruppo Sportivo Domus, Stefano Civettini, in order to bring in the road World Championships to Bergamo to coincide with the Expo 2015 in Milan .
Present at the meeting were officials of the FCI, the Italian Cycling Federation, and government officials from the city of Bergano and the Lombardy Region. The Undersecretary of the Lombardy Region, Marcello Raimondi, stressed the value of the initiative which would fit well into into the pattern of events planned in 2015 based upon Expo 2015.
Now, work will begin on multiple fronts to make an idea and a dream that were born a few years ago materialize into reality.

Bergamo's UCI World Cup 2015 Hopes

Bergamo's candidacy to host the UCI World Cup 2015 is beginning to take form. Bergamo hosted this year's finish of Stage 8 of the Giro d'Italia.
What has so far been an idea that has circulated for several months in the cycling community will evolve with a meeting this Tuesday, November 24, to formalize the creation of an organizing committee. The President of the Gruppo Sportivo Domus, Stefano Civettini, and Vice President of the FCI, FCI Gianni Sommariva, will lay the foundation for the ambitious project. If the candidacy comes to fruition it would give the Bergamo region area a unique opportunity in terms of sports, tourism and urban development in a year in which Milan has been selected to host EXPO 2015.

Bergamo Medallion for Giro del Centenario

Not surprisingly we can expect to see many special items that will be produced on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Giro d'Italia. Already mentioned previously is the book, "100 anni di passione", by Pier Bergonzi and Elio Trifari, that will go on sale in Italy on April 20th.
With stage 8 arriving in Bergamo the city has proceeded with plans to mint 300 numbered medallions to honor the riders of their city that have won a stage in the Giro d'Italia. The medallion was designed by artist Luigi Oldani. The front feature of the of the medallion is Bergamo's Torre dei Caduti which is where the finish line will be. On the obverse are the names of the "Bergamaschi" Giro stage winners.
