Chianti Classic, June 2, 2011

Want to experience a beautiful "cicloturistica" ride in the hills of Chianti? Put the Chianti Classic on your calendar for June 2, 2011. Experience the picture postcard landscapes of Siena and the magnificent roads running through villages, historic castles and villas scattered in a sea of silence and away from traffic.

Four routes:
- "GOURMET" of 52 km and 560 m of elevation gain. Depart 9 am.
- "SLOW" of 73 km and 1022 m of elevation gain. Start anytime from 0800 to 0900. Fairly easy route through the vineyards of Vistarenni, Badia a Coltibuono, Gaiole in Chianti, Castagnoli, Brolio, San Felice and San Gusmè. Four fairly short climbs the one in Badia a Coltibuono as the most challenging.
- "CICLOTOUR" of 126 km and 1905 m of elevation gain. Start anytime from 0800 to 0900. It's a classic medio fondo which should not be underestimated. Three major climbs: Quercegrossa, Badia a Coltibuono and Monteluco, la Cima Coppi at 792 m. The final section is 2km with an average of 8%.
- "Gran FONDO" of 165 km with 2650 m of elevation gain. Start from 0700 to 0800. Course similar to CICLOTOUR but longer. Finish in 10 hours and you will receive a bottle of wine.

The Chianti Classic coincides with the “Chianti Classico è” event from June 1 through June 12 in which the Black Rooster district is on show and offers various wine & food events under the Chianti Classico emblem. More information about Chianti Classico è is here.

Chianti Classic

The Chianti Classic, now in its 16th edition, is a non-competitive event. Beginning and ending in Castelnuovo Berardenga(Siena)on June 6th it offers four distances:

-"Gourmet" of 42 km, suitable for everyone and especially to those with a sweet tooth, and also offering an opportunity to visit some of the most famous vineyards of Chianti.

-"Slow" of 73 km and 1050 m of elevation gain, a route for an easy ride.

-"Ciclotour" of 126 km with 1900 m of elevation gain, quite challenging.

-"Rando" of 195 km with 3050 m of elevation gain, a challenging, difficult route mitigated by the extraordinary beauty of the area traversed.

The registration fee is only 7 euro. A French start permits riders to begin anytime between 7am and 9am.
