2012 Miss Ciclismo: Alessia Franchi

Ms. Alessia Franchi is the winner of the 2012 Miss Ciclismo pageant. The 22 year old is a university student in Milan. I thought she should have won back in 2010.

Among the judges were Alexandre Vinokourov, Filippo Pozzato, Damiano Cunego and Vincenzo Nibali.

Miss Ciclismo 2011: Nancy Bernacchia

The Miss Ciclismo 2011 is Nancy Bernacchia from Marche. Of her victory the 19 year old Ms.Bernacchia said, "I am very satisfied, I wanted especially to be Miss Ciclismo because I love cycling. I live in the countryside and cycling relaxes me a lot and keeps me in shape." Previously she was a pre-finalist in the 2009 Miss Italia pageant, and is now studying to be a veterinarian.

The jury presidents were Vicenzo Nibali and Damiano Cunego (obviously having too much fun), other judges included Gilberto Simoni, Andrea Noè, Sacha Modolo, Diego Ulissi, Marzio Bruseghin and Paolo Tiralongo.

Does Any Other Country Have A "Miss Ciclismo"?

The winner of the 2010 Miss Ciclismo pageant is Beatrice Giordano. One of the requirements to enter Miss Ciclismo is that the entrant use a bicycle at a non-competitive level. Clothing manufacturer Castelli became a sponsor this year.

Several pros were in attendance at the finale including Damiano Cunego (in white); Ms. Giordano is to his right wearing the crown.

Me? I would have voted for Alessia Franchi who definitely has the Italian style mastered:

ICJ Reader contribution contest will run 1 January to 15 February, 2011. Details here.
