At the finish at the Passo Giau there were only six men left standing at the end. Joaquin Rodriguez (Katusha), in the Maglia Rosa, won stage in a sprint ahead of Ivan Basso (Liquigas Cannondale), Ryder Hesjedal (Garmin Barracuda), Rigoberto Uran Uran (Sky Procycling), Michele Scarponi (Lampre - ISD), and Domenico Pozzovivo Colnago - CSF Inox.
GC favorite Roman Kreuziger (Astana Pro Team), 5th at the start, cracked on the slopes of Forcella Staulanza and finished 30th at 0:11:26. Paolo Tiralongo ( Astana Pro Team), in 4th at the start and only 0:01:26 down, cracked on the bottom of the Passo Giau and finished 17th at 0:02:47.
