For the first time the Giro d'Italia will start in Scandanavia, in Herning, Denmark, on Saturday May 5, 2012. Stage 1 will be an individual time trial of 8.7 km:
The course will be open for the teams to practice from 1345 to 1445. Stage 1 will begin with the first rider going off at 1540. The last rider is expected to finish at approximately 1930.
Note: on Friday, May 4th, the course will also be open from 1000 to 1200. The team presentations will take place from 1600 to 1800.
Sunday, May 6th: Stage 2 will start and finish in Herning, a 206 km stage.
Monday, May 7th: Stage 3 will start and finish in Horsens, a 190 km stage that will finish on a 14 km circuit in Horsens.
Tuesday, May 8th: Rest day and transfer to Verona, Italy
On Wednesday May 8th, the race commences in Italy with a 32.2 km team time trial that starts and finishes in Verona.
Mario Cipollini has abandoned the idea of racing in the Giro and will, in fact, be on the cycling cruise with Francesco Moser.

While Larry's happy for the folks in Denmark, the Giro 2012 is in some ways an insult to Italia. He hopes La Corsa Rosa will visit more of La Bella Paese starting in 2013. Should anyone be surprised The Lion King was just making headlines with his comeback talk?
