The De Rosa 60th Anniversary Bicycles
Click on images to enlarge. More details for each model, all of which will be custom made in Italy, at www.derosablacklabel.it. Each frame carries the "Sessanta" label for "sixtieth".
"1953, Steel: For enthusiasts of this noble material, the bike is made only from steel. A resistant material. De Rosa has 60 years of history in the processing of steel. We know all its virtues and know how to get the best out of it. For this reason, even after 60 years, each steel frame is like it is the first frame for us."
"1992, Titanium: The material. Full stop. To work titanium requires specialist knowledge and skill. This knowledge and skill that De Rosa has developed in almost 20 years makes each frame an aesthetic and performance work of art."
"1996, Aluminium: There are many aluminium alloys that are utilized and in De Rosa we use only the best. Aluminium represents a turning point in frame manufacturing, giving the possibility of developing new frame concepts, thanks to its ductility, lightness and resistance. We still believe in aluminium."
"2000, Carbon: The reference material for all current frames. Rigid, light, resistant, reactive and comfortable. Carbon fibre is without doubt the present and the future of cycling. De Rosa proposes a blend of hi-modul carbon, the fibres of which are hand-layered in our workshop in Cusano."

Campagnolo Gran Fondo New York Partners with De Rosa
From Campagnolo Gran Fondo New York:
"The revered Italian high-end frame manufacturer De Rosa is the Official Bike of the 2014 Campagnolo Gran Fondo New York, held on May 18. De Rosa, founded by Ugo De Rosa and headquartered in Cusano Milanino, Italy, celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. Campagnolo Gran Fondo New York 2014 consists of a 100-mile route with over 8000ft of climbing and a 50-mile non-competitive GFNY BEAR. Both distances provide formidable challenges truly worthy of their New York venue as part of the most international cycling event in the world.
"I've been a fan of De Rosa frames from the day I got into cycling as a kid", says Gran Fondo New York CEO Uli Fluhme. "We're honored to have De Rosa on board as a partner. The Gran Fondo New York philosophy is to partner with companies and people who stand for the same values as we do: passion for the sport of cycling, authenticity and quality. De Rosa is also a natural addition given that Ugo De Rosa and Tullio Campagnolo worked together closely for decades, with Valentino Campagnolo and Cristiano De Rosa continuing the close working relationship, and Campagnolo being the Title Sponsor of the event."
De Rosa has been a builder for many champions such as Rik Van Looy, Eddy Merckx and Francesco Moser. While De Rosa today focuses on carbon, they continue to work with steel, titanium and aluminum, always staying true to their tradition. "De Rosa is very glad to partner with a great project like Campagnolo Gran Fondo New York. The Gran Fondo market is very important for us. In Italy, De Rosa is the Title Sponsor of Gran Fondo Florence and now adding Campagnolo Gran Fondo New York gives us a prominent presence in the capital of the world" said Cristiano De Rosa.
As part of the partnership agreement, De Rosa will produce a Campagnolo Gran Fondo New York Protos by De Rosa frame. The Protos is the top frame produced by De Rosa and will be awarded to the overall man and woman winners of Campagnolo Gran Fondo New York and will also be available for sale. The official Campagnolo Gran Fondo New York bike will be equipped with Campagnolo Record components. The frame will have the CGFNY colors: NYC style matte black with neon green accents. Besides the winners of GFNY 2014, the eight members of CGFNY's Gruppo Sportivo ambassador team, who lead the free weekly group rides for registered participants of CGFNY14, will each ride a CGFNY Protos by De Rosa.
“Our Gruppo Sportivo riders are regular cycling enthusiasts from all walks of life", Fluhme adds. "They live, ride and race in and around the world’s greatest city. Companies recognize the value of direct interaction with their consumers. A professional cyclist will ride whatever he’s paid to ride. But we are picky New Yorkers. We don’t just ride anything. And if we like something, we love talking about it to our cycling friends during the weekly Gran Fondo New York group rides as well as in our daily lives. Plus: anyone can test ride our bikes.”
A select number of CGFNY Protos by De Rosa frames will be available for purchase. Avid Campagnolo Gran Fondo New York fans have long requested to buy a bike frame of the event. With De Rosa's timeless classic design combined with modern technology and understated Italian style, the CGFNY Protos will have global appeal."

"Maglia Rosa" Custom 2013 King RS
It is special when you can go to Italy and be measured and advised for a frameset. This story is courtesy of Marcello whose blog, BIKEADELIC, is dedicated to all things De Rosa.
"Maglia Rosa" Custom 2013 King RS
Our love story is:
My wife Amber I visited Italy to celebrate our honeymoon, vacation and follow our favorite tour; 'il Giro d'Italia' of 2012 for stages 20 and 21. For stage 20 of Stelvio, we stayed with www.bbmovimento.com, Anna is the best and a true cycling fanatic who accompanied us up 'il Mortirolo' to cheer the riders.
We took this opportunity to visit the 'heart of cycling' De Rosa factory. We contacted Cristiano in advance and he welcomed us with a display of all models. As we walked into the factory we saw Sr. Ugo De Rosa overlooking new Protos frames being built-up. It was a dream and an honor for us to speak and meet everyone and the climax to our Italian adventure. Amber requested Cristiano and Ugo to sign the frame, and pink to honor 'il Giro' which they kindly provided.
Our deep gratitude love to Cristiano and Ugo De Rosa for all of their attention.

Doriano De Rosa, Ti Framebuilding
De Rosa, Colnago, Pinarello, continue to be great family names that grace the downtubes of Italian bicycles. Yet, today there is only one family member of these that actually builds frames and that is Doriano De Rosa, son of founder Ugo De Rosa. Doriano does all the Ti framebuilding at De Rosa and that to me makes the "Titanio" model special.
Marcello, whose blog BIKEADELIC is solely about De Rosa bicycles, recently had a a Titanio built for him by Doriano. Following are a few photos of Doriano working on the build, a more complete photo set on BIKEADELIC here.

A Very Early De Rosa

Thanks to the nice people at G.S. Guccilife we have these excellent photos of a very early De Rosa, dating to the early 1950s when Ugo De Rosa's shop was located in the Niguarda section of Milano. G.S. Guccilife writes, "Take note, this is probably the earliest DE ROSA bike you have ever seen. It dates back to the early 50s and it still rocks the decal with the first factory location, in Niguarda, nearby Milano. Found at a swap meet, it was converted in a city bike. Thanks to Pietro for the submission!"
Two versions of De Rosa history have previously appeared here in the Italian Cycling Journal:
De Rosa History, Part I
De Rosa History, Part II
If I were personally considering a De Rosa today I would definitely go with a Ti model as they are made by the only remaining De Rosa still building, Ugo's son Dorinao. A previous story about Doriano De Rosa:
