First Piazza "Giro d'Italia" Inaugurated



Tualis, a frazione of the municipality of Comeglians in northern Friuli Venezia Giulia, inaugurated on Sunday, February, 6, 2011, the first piazza named after the Giro d'Italia.

The organizing committee, chaired by Enzo Cainero, of the 14th stage of the 2011 Giro d'Italia, Lienz-Monte Zoncolan, which will be held on Saturday, May 22, met in the morning with regional and community leaders to unveil the plaque that now marks the first Italian piazza which takes its name from the Corsa Rosa, "Piazza Giro d’Italia". A monument was also dedicated.

After the inauguration of the piazza there was a ceremony in the Alpina di Comeglians cinema to honor the memory of former national coach Franco Ballerini.

  1. Hey, I've been there! It's a beautiful mountainside village about a third of the way up Monte Crostis. Just thinking of it makes me want to climb through the dense fir forest and breath the fresh air.
