Fire at Bianchi Warehouse in Italy
A furious fire broke out this morning and swept through an industrial complex in Telgate (Bergamo) that included the Bianchi warehouse. The fire began at about 4:30 a.m and required the response from fire companies from all over Bergamo province. No injuries are reported.
Regarding the incident Bianchi has said in a statement, "Despite losing a good portion of the inventory, there is no consequence with regard to inventories. The company may in fact continue to assemble bicycles without interruption and have already been alerted vendors to expedite shipments."
"We have worked hard over recent months to meet the strong demand for the new 2010 line", said the CEO of Bianchi, Bob Ippolito. "We believe we can rectify the situation as soon as possible and we can count on our team that is already proving to be extremely efficient. The situation is under control."
Words of support for the Bianchi team also came from Salvatore Grimaldi, president of Bianchi S.p.a. "Fortunately there were no injuries and our historic headquarters (ed note: in Treviglio) is located in an area completely different from the fire."
"This is a challenging time for the company", said Felice Gimondi. "But thanks to the efforts of our people we will rectify the incident promptly. Despite the economic problems of the country there has been a great deal of interest in the 2010 range of products. We will fulfill orders as soon as possible."
