2010 Giro d'Italia, Stage 8 Results

Monte Terminillo, 16 May: In the feared 16 km ascent of Monte Terminillo, which was blanketed in fog at the summit, Vinokourov was completely in control and was able to stay with any attacks by the GC contenders. Vino remains in pink. Six Italian riders are now in the top 10 on GC.

The stage was won by Saxo Bank's Chris Sorensen who began a breakaway with 16 other riders at 113 km of the 189 km stage. He appeared to suffer mightly in the last few kms but was able to hold off an attack by Simone Stortoni.

Yesterday took its toll on the peloton, with 7 riders abandoning early in the stage today including Alessandro Petacchi.
