2011 Tour de France, Stage 3
American Tyler Farrar (Garmin-Cervélo) took his first Tour victory after ahead of Romain Feillu (Vacansoleil)and José Joaquín Rojas (Movistar) in a sprint (Olonne sur Mer-Redon, 198 km).
Petacchi could not contest the final sprint although he was in a very good position at 2 km to go. A sudden decrease in the speed by Cavendish, who Petacchi was following, forced AleJet to loose many places in the bunch. Then, in the last bend with 600 meters to go Petacchi came to a stop after a crash in front of him. He crossed the finish line in 161th position.
Damiano Cunego has hopes for Stage 4 which has a finish that suits him.
