The Quagmire of Team Lampre-Farnese Vini, Part II

Lampre-Farnese Vini will receive a temporary license until March 31st if the proposal for such a license is approved at a meeting of the License Commission on Friday, January 15th.

The announcement from the UCI:

"Due to the imminent start of the first race in the 2010 UCI World Calendar – the Tour Down Under – the UCI today would like to clarify the situation of the Lampre team as a UCI ProTeam for the 2010 season, which currently has been refused this status.

Unfortunately, this procedure did not go ahead in accordance with the measures and within the deadlines stipulated by the UCI rules, because of serious administrative non-compliances noted by the company Ernst&Young in the file that was submitted to it when the team presented its registration request last November.

In accordance with the rules, a request made by the UCI ProTour Council was submitted to the Licences Commission to withdraw the licence based on the information available at that time.

It is in cycling’s utmost interest and especially the riders and the entire team staff, that the UCI has intervened by putting forward a proposal for a provisional solution that it has submitted to the Licences Commission.

The objective of this proposal is to enable the Lampre team to be in compliance with the rules by 31 March 2010.

If the Licences Commission, which will be meeting on 15 January 2010, accepts this proposal from the UCI, the Lampre team could be allowed temporary registration which would enable it to carry on with its activities.

If at the end of this provisional period, the situation of the Lampre team is judged as non compliant, the CUPT will once again refer the matter to the Licences Commission which will be asked to take a decision on the request to withdraw the licence."
